Equipping The Next Leaders, Role Models And Champions.
Middle School students at Los Gatos Christian School benefit from our focus on developing a well-rounded student; academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. They serve as mentors for younger students, participate in student government and interscholastic athletics and receive the level of academics that results in nearly a 100% acceptance rate to at least one private high school of their choice.
Students rotate through a series of seven courses per day, including a chosen elective and Physical Education. Promoting from grade school to middle school may be the biggest transition most children make since they began kindergarten. Middle school students travel between classes, store their books in lockers, and have a different teacher for each subject. The supportive environment our teachers create help them effectively navigate the ever changing world of middle schools years.
The preparation we provide gives them a foundation for success in high school and beyond.
IT IS THE PRIVILEGE OF LOS GATOS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL TO PARTNER WITH PARENTS IN PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH A CHRIST-CENTERED EDUCATION AS WE “PREPARE STUDENTS FOR LIFE.”
CELEBRATING OUR GRADUATES
The graduation ceremony at Los Gatos Christian School is a bittersweet event, as we celebrate the achievements and success of our 8th grade students and launch them into the next phase of their academic lives.
WHERE DO THEY GO FROM HERE?
Graduates of LGCS attend a wide variety of local public and private high schools, including Valley Christian, The King’s Academy, Bellarmine College Prep, Archbishop Mitty, St. Francis, Presentation and Notre Dame.
Due to a rich history of graduates who possess academic, spiritual, and athletic strength, Valley Christian High School offers a Guaranteed Admissions Agreement to qualified Los Gatos Christian School graduates.
Los Gatos Christian School’s philosophy is to educate students with a Biblical worldview in all subjects. The faculty and staff are committed to respect and care for each student while providing an environment of academic excellence that prepares students for a Christ-centered life.
1:1 IPAD PROGRAM
Sixth through eighth grade students utilize iPads each day during instructional time to access curriculum and complete assignments. The cost of the iPad usage is included in tuition. Students will return their iPads each summer so that new educational apps and curriculum can be updated. Upon graduation from 8th grade, students will own their iPad and take it home for further academic or personal use.
OUR STANCE ON HOMEWORK
Los Gatos Christian School strives to reach a reasonable balance between class work and homework. Homework assignments are intended to reinforce and extend what’s being taught in the classroom and serve as a tool for review of these concepts, as well as to assess student understanding of classroom instruction. Getting into a homework routine can motivate students to develop good work habits, prepare them for the academic rigors of high school, and increase the opportunity for individual initiative and personal responsibility.
We play a role in the assistance of parents in the raising of their children, which is why we have no desire to compromise family time. However, a mutual goal for academic excellence means that a certain amount of homework is necessary. In order to maintain high academic standards, middle school students will need to spend more time on studies than the time that is available in class.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS CAN EXPECT 60-90 MINUTES OF HOMEWORK PER DAY.
INTRODUCING MATH TRACKS
The Middle School Math program offers a wide range of courses, from Math 6 through Geometry. Each grade level offers 2 -3 courses, dependent upon the size and academic needs of the class. Students are placed in an appropriate course according to the following assessments:
Quarters 3 and 4 test scores from the previous school year
Spring national standardized testing results for math
Fall Math placement test results
STAR Math test results

COMMON CORE AND BENCHMARKING
Private schools pay close attention to Common Core and state standards and traditionally use them as a starting point; however, we set the bar far above the minimum state standards as an expectation for student learning. We are not bound by the same constraints as public schools and have the ability to select curriculum and course materials from a variety of publishers which best support our educational goals for each grade level.
For in-depth information on how we view and use Common Core State Standards, please click on the link below.
+ ELECTIVE COURSES
In addition to the core classes of English, Language Arts, Math, Science and Bible, middle school students are able choose one elective class each quarter. Students attend elective courses four days per week for 45 minutes per session. + FAITH & SERVICE
CALLED TO LEAD BY FAITH
Middle school students are uniquely positioned to lead by example. The environment that teachers, staff, and students create allows them to experience the love of God, pursue His purpose for their lives, and become more Christ-like throughout their social and academic endeavors. As the oldest students at Los Gatos Christian School, their positive influence can be felt throughout the campus. The Spiritual Life Coordinator on the Student Government council helps to ensure that students are actively engaging in meaningful faith-building activities.
DAILY BIBLE CLASS
Middle school students participate in Bible class for 45 minutes each day. Interactive curriculum from Positive Action and Right Now Media stimulate deep discussions and an in-depth study of the Bible. Students also memorize scripture passages. Additionally, our teachers weave relevant biblical perspectives into all course materials.
Students in sixth – eighth grades attend middle school chapel each Tuesday. Topics are relevant to the critical years of middle school and the adjustments to social, emotional and academic expectations unique to this age group. A variety of special speakers and youth pastors visit throughout the year to strengthen their personal walk with the Lord and to challenge them to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS WEEK
Each year, middle school students participate in Spiritual Emphasis Week. A special inspirational guest speaker challenges the students to further examine and commit their lives to Christ. A special schedule incorporates chapel into a daily occurrence during this important week.
DEVOTIONS AND PRAYERS
As a team, it’s important for us to pray together. The LGCS faculty and staff meet for devotions and prayers three times a week. The “Moms in Prayer” parent organization meets on a weekly basis to support the LGCS community through intentional prayer.
Easter Chapel presents the opportunity for middle school students to publicly profess their faith through water baptism. Interested students complete a questionnaire and meet with the Head of School to take part in this milestone step of faith.
PUTTING LOVE INTO ACTION.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE THROUGH COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS.
Their favorite non-profits include Sacred Heart, Cityteam Ministries of San Jose, Second Harvest Food Bank, Lighting for Literacy, and the Wounded Warrior Project. Seventh graders learn about the joys and trials of missions work and community service during their “Mission Ready” trip.
+ BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE (ESS)

OUR COMMITMENT TO STANDARDIZED TESTING
MAP Growth Standardized Testing
Standardized Testing is administered to all students in K -8th grades.
Los Gatos Christian School administers the MAP Growth Test. This assessment is available to Public and Private Christian schools across the United States and around the world. The MAP Growth test measures what students know and what they are ready to learn next. The test dynamically adjusts to each student’s performance creating a personalized assessment experience that accurately measures performance. Administered three times a year for timely information to help teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead.
MAP Growth is aligned to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.
Because achievement testing is such a critical component of our school’s instructional program, MAP Growth and the complete assessment program offer your child’s teacher valuable information about their academic progress. It also becomes a teaching resource for our faculty, allowing us to collect student data that, in turn, helps us make wise decisions in meeting the learning needs of each student individually.
OUR SUPPORT SERVICES
The Educational Care Program (ECP) provides support for students, parents and teachers. The ECP team works collaboratively to reinforce the excellence of Los Gatos Christian School so that children can reach their full potential in a confident and guided manner. By offering limited intervention programs to identified students with learning challenges, the ECP support team works with parents and teachers to assure that student needs are met thoughtfully and effectively so that change and success is achieved.
If a student is experiencing academic difficulty, the teacher and parents are expected to contact the ECP department. ECP offers the following academic support at an additional fee to those students who have been referred by the teacher through the ECP process:
REFERRAL FOR EDUCATIONAL TESTING
Los Gatos Christian School does not offer any special education resource classrooms. Academic tutoring outside of normal school hours, during the school year, is available from several of our teachers. Tutoring may be arranged through the classroom teacher.
